About Joel Werner
Joel Werner is an investment executive with more than two decades of experience. He began his career in 1999 as an investment banker at Goldman Sachs, where he completed a variety of transactions, including IPOs and bond offerings, that spanned a diverse range of industries in Europe and North America. Werner spent two years in this role before joining Frontenac as an investment associate.
At this Chicago-based private equity firm, Joel Werner was part of a team responsible for managing $1 billion in aggregate funds. He worked briefly as a summer investment analyst at Farallon Capital Management in 2004, while earning his MBA, and subsequently spent three years as a portfolio manager at Sandelman Partners in London. The multi-strategy hedge fund grew from less than $200 million in assets under management to around $4.5 billion during his time there. Werner's investment strategy involved proactive idea sourcing as well as event-driven and fundamental equity investing.
Joel Werner gained additional experience as portfolio manager at Plural Investments in New York and at CRCM in Hong Kong SAR. Since 2014, he has served as a founding partner and the chief investment officer of Solitude Capital Management, also in Hong Kong. Werner oversees all aspects of business operations for the firm, which specializes in early-stage investments in emerging growth companies in Asia that are backed by quality business models and management teams.
Werner is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he received his bachelor’s degree in finance. He also has an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business.
